Welcome to my blog! My name is Jerry Ghionis. I have been photographing professionally for 20 years, owned my own business for 16 years and teaching professionally for over 13 years. This journal will give you an insight to my love for life and passion for bringing out the best in people. Whether it’s making a woman shine the brightest as a bride or teaching fellow photographers to maximize their creativity, business or personal development, I am committed to excellence in whatever I do. My main strength as a person is my love and empathy for people. I don’t take life too seriously and always see the positives in life. I have had the privilege and honor of thousands of welcoming me into their homes and hearts. As a photographer, I wonder at the trust I am given by my subjects who give me a glimpse into their soul and allow me to capture their spirit. It is a precious gift that I don’t take for granted but treasure deeply. No award or accolade comes close to the feeling of fulfillment I receive with the anticipation of those seeing their photographs for the first time.
Widely regarded as one of the top five wedding photographers in the world, Jerry Ghionis and his wife Melissa are based in Melbourne, Australia and Beverly Hills, CA and together they travel frequently on international photography assignments and speaking engagements. Married early in 2011, Jerry and Melissa work as a team and have developed a powerful creative and business force. With the flair of a fashion designer and the ingenuity of an architect, Jerry’s style can be described where vintage glamor meets contemporary fashion. Renowned for his creativity, he not only has the ability to capture the natural magic on your wedding day but he creates magic of his own. His natural love and empathy for people creates powerful visual story telling.
He won the WPPI (Wedding & Portrait Photographers International) Wedding Album of the Year for eight times among his long list of accolades and WPPI included Jerry in their Top Five Wedding Photographers in the World. Jerry was also named as the 2011 Australian Wedding Photographer of the Year by the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography). For four years in a row Jerry has achieved the PPA (Professional Photographers of America) Diamond Level Photographer of the Year Award and he also won the 2009 SWPP (Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers) Photographer of the Year. In 2011 Jerry was named by PDN magazine as one of the top photography workshop instructors in the world.
Creator of the Ice Society (an educational website for photographers) and designer of the Ice Light (a revolutionary portable LED light), Jerry is a rarity in the industry where his natural photographic talent is matched only by his business acumen and his ability to teach and inspire others.
Jerry and Melissa’s most recent passion is the creation of their non-profit charitable organization named The Soul Society, which they co-founded together. The Soul Society was created with the specific purpose of caring for poor, homeless and orphaned children in third world countries, one soul at a time.
